The Gamecocks came to play today as they took on both Clemson University and College if Charleston. Today was filled with good team play as well as amazing defense and great scoring opportunities.
In the first game of the day, the gamecocks battled the Clemson tigers till the very end. The cocks took advantage the first half by setting up Natalie Drouillard to score the first goal of the game. Goalkeeper Logan Nelson was the Gamecock's wall of steel in the defense, letting nothing past her. Leading at half time, USC went into the second half even stronger, scoring a second goal. Off of a cross from Taylor Halle, Brooke Green got her head on it, putting it past Clemson's keeper into the back of the net. With a few minutes left, Clemson kept fighting, working to get a goal in the final minutes of the match. Final score 2-1 USC.
The second game was filled with many scoring opportunities, but none of which could be finished. With competitive play lasting all game, neither CofC or USC could pull of a goal to grasp the win. Final score, 0-0.
With spring break and St. Patrick's weekend coming along, the Gamecocks will be hard at work on the practice field until March 31st when they head up to Raleigh for the weekend to participate in the NC State University tournament. Matches and times will be released soon.
