Round Robin vs. UNC and ECU

The Gamecocks kicked off the Spring Season strong with a round robin against two great opponents. We were afraid the games were going to get rained out again, and when we showed up in Greenville NC we were met with a field that was basically underwater, however we adapted quickly.

The first match against UNC started out rough as we tried to adapt to the wet conditions. UNC who had already played a game in the rain scored with an early goal off of a dropped ball in the box. The Gamecocks responded with a goal however UNC scored another off of a breakaway before half. After another well played 35 minutes, the game ended in a come behind gamecock victory with a score of 3-2.

The second game saw a much stronger start by the Gamecocks, holding ECU to a 0-0 score for most of the first half. With only a few minutes left in the first, ECU found luck on a corner kick. Coming into the second half, we fought hard but could not find the back of the goal resulting in a 0-1 loss.

This weekend saw our first win and our first loss of the season, both against two very good teams. We definitely have a lot to work on, however it was a great start to whats looking like its going to be an incredible season!
